City Leaders from Asia-Pacific, Americas and Caribbean Share Experience and Lessons Learned on Disaster Resilience

MCR2030 Resilience Hubs, namely Incheon, Makati and Mexico City, held the webinar, “Learning from Our MCR Hubs” to share experiences, best practices and recommendations on strengthening disaster resilience in their respective cities on 8 November 2022.

City leaders from the Asia-Pacific, Americas and Caribbean covered a range of topics with a focus on strategies and policies towards climate action and disaster risk management.

An Sung-Ah, Deputy Director of the Incheon Metropolitan City, the Republic of Korea, presented the city’s objectives and plans as a Resilience Hub. Incheon City’s strategy towards climate action was highlighted, including the adopted counter measuring mechanism against heatwaves, awareness raising with the residents and the general public.

Aideé Stephanie Jiménez ávila, Resilience Actions and Policies Coordinator of Mexico City, Mexico, emphasized strategic, continuous institutional arrangements for disaster resilience. She expressed Mexico City’s openness to exchanging information and dialogue with other cities to build urban resilience.

Liza Velle B. Ramos EnP, Research and Planning Division Head of Makati, the Philippines, shared her reflections and recommendations for other cities considering to become a Resilience Hub. She said building resilience is a long and winding road that requires institutional commitment, strategic partnerships and collaboration.

Andy McElroy, Programme Manager of UNDRR Office for Northeast Asia (ONEA) and Global Education and Training Institute (GETI) concluded the webinar, and said, “You and all cities are at the front line of opportunities. We will succeed in terms of our efforts on climate and disaster resilience at the municipality and local level.”
